New Music/Dead Beat Dad Post
First, I feel like a dead beat dad trying to reconnect with the kid he hasn’t seen in two years by saying this, but sorry I’ve been absent for a good bit. It wasn’t a choice. Life is full of curveballs kids. For me, those curveballs come in the form of school, trying to maintain a 9-5 on the weekends and still trying to feed my ever-growing alcoholism (though technically, it’s not alcoholism until after college so AA is going to have to wait a bit). Second part, I’m going to probably be absent for a bit more because of the aforementioned shit that keeps coming up until probably around. So sorry kids. You’ll get your child support soon. Yeah, I’m a fuck up, but what do you expect?
Anyways, setting all of my personal bullshit aside, let’s get into some music. Just because I’ve been really busy doing shit doesn’t mean for a second that I’ve stopped paying attention to what’s been good so far. There’s been some nuggets that have come out the past few weeks that I can’t just let slip under the radar. So I’m gonna get lazy and do what the Nashville Scene does way too much and just make a long ass post showing you what you need to be listening to at the moment.
- First on the chopping block, Bass Drum of Death. Their show last month was one of the best concerts I’ve been to this year and the interview I did with John Barrett (the mastermind behind the band) was cool. In said interview, he mentioned that we’d be seeing a slew of new releases from the band this year, including several singles. Well, he finally let the cat out of the bag a couple of weeks ago by releasing a new song called “I Wanna Be Forgotten” for a split the band’s going to be doing with DZ Deathrays. I fucking love it. It’s perfect for drinking beer and kicking shit over. I can’t wait to see what else these dudes have under their sleeve now. Check out the track below.

- Second up, one of my favorite bands around, the Black Angels, don’t seem to be slowing down either. They just released a video for one of my favorite tracks on their last record, “Entrance Song.” The song can straight up put you in a trance if you’re not too careful, much thanks to the guitar riff and the chanting. It’s perfect for driving late at night and all of that shit. Anyways, the video is no exception. It’s got everything from motorcycles to naked babes walking around and undressing in the desert, all in trippy sequences and the shit you’ve come to expect from the band. It’s probably one of my favorite videos of the year. Anyways, check it out below and make up your own damn mind.

- Finally, Yuck, that shoegaze-like band with a terrible name that started to blow the fuck up last year, have released a new single. It reminds me of 20 years ago when the Smashing Pumpkins didn’t suck ass and Billy Corgan wasn’t a tool. It’s got a hint of My Bloody Valentine in there. Sorry, I’m not very good at describing shit right now. Just shut the fuck up and listen to the track below. It rips and I can’t wait to hear what else these guys have up their sleeves.
Chew – Yuck
So anyways, once again, a thousand apologies for being a deadbeat. Can’t promise it won’t happen again, but I’m trying kids. Cut me some slack. Until then, enjoy my shit attempt at child support.
Love ya all (except for the assholes),
